Reptiles are among Kendahl Jan Jubb's earliest subjects. Iguana paintings continue to symbolize alienation and disparity in Jubb's artwork. While often represented as beautiful in her reptile paintings, Iguanas, geckos, and chameleons are depicted with cold, distant eyes, often appearing foreign and out of place on oriental rugs surrounded by lush floral adornments and rich furnishings. Dragon paintings are a particular form of reptile artwork that Kendahl uses to release, not only her own fiery demons, but the constraints and limits imposed on her by expectations. She painted White Cloud Dragon after lengthy illnesses of her family members. Gila Monsters, beautiful and horrible, fascinate Kendahl and occupy a very special place in her artwork, as they are the embodiment of the alienated and disenfranchised.
